Thread: All I did was explain the strategy. The Democrats took control of the House, learned that Mueller didn’t follow the money, and launched a legal battle to get Trump’s financials. Few understood what the Dems were doing and insisted on immediate impeachment.
My goal since May has been to pump the brakes on impeachment and try to take some of the pressure off of the House Dems as they executed what appeared to me to be a very sound strategy to get the goods on Trump before impeaching him.
It’s very tough to get the goods on a stonwalling POTUS. POTUS controls the DOJ and the intelligence community, so you can’t just snap your fingers and bring him to justice. You have to work your way through the court system, and that takes time.
House Dems have played their cards perfectly. They acted swiftly and have taken all the proper steps to ensure they have the best possible legal arguments. They tried to negotiate with Trump to get him to turn documents over and they only used the courts to the extent necessary.
House Dems understood that DOJ and Trump’s cabinet secretaries would shield Trump and refuse to turn over documents, so House Dems went after third parties who have the documents they need, namely Mazars and Deutsche Bank.
House Dems have gone from issuing subpoenas in April to having their cases before SCOTUS in December. That is very fast and they and the courts should be applauded for their expediency.
Hats off to the House Dem leadership, particularly Pelosi, Schiff, Nadler, Cummings and Waters, who have been leading the charge. Also hats off the House Dems for picking an amazing legal team, and to the legal team for *being* amazing.
Pelosi hired Douglas Letter to lead the court battles, and Letter has been nothing short of masterful. He’s argued every case himself at every stage, from the District Courts to the Circuit Courts and now finally at SCOTUS. Letter deserves deep admiration.
Schiff hired Goldman and Noble to analyze the financials once they are in hand. Those were great hires and will come in handy very soon. And Goldman has been earning his stripes in the meantime in the Ukraine hearings. Bravo!
This goes without saying, but I had nothing to do with this. All I did was watch the team do their thing and try to explain it to you as it unfolded. And I tried to get you to stop criticizing them and let them work. Hopefully I helped with that a little; that was my goal.
So give credit where credit is due. Don’t laud me for merely understanding the plan. Give credit to the team: Pelosi, Schiff, Nadler, Cummings, Waters, Letter, Goldman and Noble. Those are the heroes. Sing their praises and be thankful we had the right people at the helm.
All along there has been a plan. And we will win.
