As of today, I’m an Independent

I’ve always called myself Republican. I keep my Twitter feed generally apolitical & will continue to do so. Generally. But as of today, I’m switching parties. Over impeachment. The Republican positions aren’t consonant with intellectual honesty. As of today, I’m an Independent.

I guess you were OK while Republicans were paving the way for Trump as GOP spent 6 decades successfully courting racists and radicals. It’s hard to forgive. But an honorable man can admit his mistakes and reform. Welcome to #TheResistance. You’ve got work to do, Bryan.

I became an Independent many years ago precisely because I got sick of the “rules don’t apply to us” attitude I kept seeing from republicans.

I was independent until today, then I switched to Dem so I can vote in the primaries.

I left the GOP after Trump won election. No more Fox News or con media. Warning: when you become objective, reality is somewhat of a shock.

Thank you.
Sincere question. Does that mean you’re no longer allowed to vote in the Republican primaries?

“The Republican positions aren’t consonant with intellectual honesty.”

So true.

I have been a fan of Garner’s since before law school. He has helped many be much better at using our writing to persuade. But if he was to self-edit, I think he’d be more concise: “The Republican positions aren’t intellectually honest.”

The republicans sitting in office have betrayed their oaths of office and they don’t care what anyone thinks about it.
It has been the most difficult thing to witness in this entire trump nightmare.
It’s a travesty against America.

This is the most disturbing part of the past 3 years. We knew the Trump’s essence when he came into office – he had already showed us.
Most shocking is the way Republicans got in line without any principled conservative objections or objections to Trump debasing the office.

I totally agree! As bad as Trump is, which is really bad, he’s now just a mouthpiece for the sinister policies the Conservative Right have been pushing for 30 years. This is their last best chance at stacking the courts and they don’t care if they shred the Constitution to do it.

I think we moved beyond shredding the constitution. They are now using it for toilet paper. I often wonder what it would be like if Senator John McCain was still alive today.

I like to think John McCain’s spirit, and that of every dead president, is haunting the crap out of Trump.
I often think how different these last 3 years would have been if Al Franken didn’t cave so easily.

I ask one thing: that you reconsider what you’ve been told by the GOP about Democrats in light of what you now know about your old party. I was a Republican. I’m a veteran. I was in a federal law enforcement agency. I’m a wife & the mother of 2 fine young men. I’m a Christian.

I’m a college graduate. I was a RU linguist in mil intelligence. I’m the daughter of a USMC fighter pilot. I’m a Democrat. There are millions like me. We’re nice, ordinary people who believe in democracy and in treating others the way we would like to be treated. Thank you for not being a Republican anymore. It’s not the party that it was. And thank you for reading this.

Thank you for your integrity. The path of the heart is not always the easiest but it is certainly the most rewarding for the soul.

Outstanding, sir.

The party of Trump does not care about good governance or democracy’s checks and balances. The goal is power by hook or crook.

It is the “Great American Heist” right before our very eyes. Has any one ever stopped to ask why Trump ‘is not’ taking a salary? Knowing this mans history, really???
